Art, Artist & Arts and Health
I was trained in fine art in WIT and the Crawford College of Art & Design. My time in Waterford was brilliant but the Crawford was more turbulent. I studied sculpture, history of Art, Creative Writing, film and photography.
After college I was at a loss about what to do and for a while completed some commissions in stone, worked in an antiquarian book shop and wrote the first of my two quite awful novels.
After some years I went to Australia and travelled around the country for a year and a half, painting watercolours and playing the guitar. Back in Ireland I wrote a third novel, painted in watercolour, oil and acrylic and began working as an artist in the community. In 2000 I became self-employed and worked as a freelance art tutor and community artist. In 2008 I started working in Waterford Regional Hospital in the Renal Dialysis Unit
In recent years I have trained as an art therapist in my Alma Mater, the Crawford College. I run a private practice from my studio in Kilkenny.
